Takin' Care a Business

Not a day for concentrating on resolutions. We left town early for my hubby's business meetings. Then I spent a good part of the afternoon and evening on the writers guild newsletter--if you don't count the time I broke for lunch, answered texts from our kids, and visited with hubby during his break.

I consider it God's sense of humor in teaching me patience and persistence in that each week, I face some new issue or challenge and have to learn a new skill or technique to deal with the newsletter. It's teaching me so much, not only about writing, editing, using Constant Contact, and working with people and their submitted material.

But I was writing. I was taking care of priorities. So a productive day, with no regrets.

Now back to the National Championship Game. I'll not get into all the sports metaphors for dogged determination, teamwork, and what-have-you (though I'm a sucker for them). Go Bama! (Steve's a Dawg fan, and I'm a Vol fan. But we love our SEC.)

The Digital Dirt Road

Five Days on the Digital Dirt Road

A reporter spent five days in North Carolina -- "a textile-industry hub that has been hit hard by the economic downturn -- documenting the challenges facing rural communities without high-speed access. Right now, more than 14.3 million rural homes across the country -- 61 percent -- are not connected to high-speed Internet. "

I had no idea this was a problem for so many people in a "civilized" country. For writers like Brook Townes and me, lack of high-speed internet puts us and our calling back into the last century. Let me know what you think of the people and circumstances described in these video reports.

This report will be showcased at the InternetforEveryone.org town hall meeting on the future of the Internet in Durham, N.C., on March 7.
